Policies and Guidelines

South Clearfield Elementary Library Policies

Selection Policy
The Media Specialist makes book selections for the library. Recommendations are considered from teachers, parents and students. Other influences that could help in the selection process are book reviews, curriculum standards, awards winners and nominees, librarian recommendations.

Library inventory is done every year. We follow the district policy on weeding.

Donations will occasionally be accepted. These will be used or re-donated as deemed necessary by the Media Specialist.

Parental Restrictions
Parents need to talk to their child about what books they deem appropriate. We follow the district policy on this. Please talk to the Media Specialist if other arrangements need to be made.

School Library Advisory Committee/ Evaluation Committee
Each year a committee is established. Those members of the committee serve for 1 year. Evaluations are done if necessary.

1st Graders check out 1 book each week. The book needs to be returned before another book can be checked out.

2nd – 6th Graders check out 2 books each week. The books need to be returned before other books can be checked out. In the case of a class assignment a 3rd book will be allowed to be checked out.

Fines are accessed when a book in not returned or damaged. The “average” cost of a book is $20.00.

Use of library
Each class is assigned a library time each week. Class times missed because of no school or other will not be made up.

Teachers can schedule to use the library when it is not in use. Please see Media Specialist.

Computers in library are to be used for library catalog. Students will not be allowed to use them for other things unless supervised.

Volunteers and Library Assistants are encouraged. Please see the Media Specialist.

Proper library etiquette is expected. Those not following procedures will be asked to leave.
