South Clearfield Elementary Library Procedures and Guidelines 2022-2023
Selection Policy
The Media Specialist makes book selections for the library. Recommendations are considered from teachers, parents and students. Other influences that could help in the selection process are book reviews, curriculum standards, awards winners and nominees, librarian recommendations.
Weeding
Library inventory is done every year. We follow the district policy on weeding.
Donations
Donations will occasionally be accepted. These will be used or re-donated as deemed necessary by the Media Specialist.
Parental Restrictions
Parents need to talk to their child about what books they deem appropriate. We follow the district policy on this. Please talk to the Media Specialist if other arrangements need to be made.
Circulation
1st Grade can check out 1 book each week. The book needs to be returned before another book can be checked out.
2nd Grade can check out 2 books each week. The books need to be returned before other books can be checked out.
3rd – 6th Graders check out up to 3 books each week. The books need to be returned before other books can be checked out. In the case of a class assignment a 4th book will be allowed to be checked out.
Fines are accessed when a book in not returned or damaged. The “average” cost of a book is $20.00.
Use of library
Each class is assigned a library time each week. Class times missed because of no school or other will not be made up.
Teachers can schedule to use the library when it is not in use. Please see Media Specialist.
Volunteers and Library Assistants are encouraged. Please see the Media Specialist.
Proper library etiquette is expected. Those not following procedures will be asked to leave.
